Review of From Prada to Nada (2011) by Roy Hector K — 19 Aug 2011
One good thing about this movie, is that it is a movie adaptation of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility", so it has a really good framework or structure to work with. The execution, however, is not really that good.
For one, there is the acting. It is generally bad. Camilla Belle's acting abilities are nowhere near as pretty or beautiful as her. The same can be said for the rest of the cast, who seem to have been picked mainly for their looks, rather than their acting ability.
The script tries hard to be witty at some points, but generally fall flat, partly probably because of the bad acting.
The other good thing about this movie, is the soundtrack, which is pretty good. Most are in Spanish, but still pretty good.
One way to look at this film, is that it ruined a really good book. Another way would be to say that the book's sterling qualities sort of pulled a bad movie like this towards a bit of respectability. A decent film overall, could've been much better, if they only did it right.
