Review of From Paris with Love (2010) by Carlito G — 11 Jan 2011
Daft, dumb wham bam action flick from the Luc Besson stable. It was exactly what I expected coming from the maker of the Transporter franchise but I expected a much better story from the director of the superb Taken.
The story is standard fare with a twist that you can see coming in the first five mins. Rhy Meyers is irritating as hell with the dodgiest put on american accent I've heard in a long time. Some of the voice dubbing I thought was god awful as well.
That's the bad stuff, the good is that if you want a brainless action movie (which I did when watching this) then it's top entertainment. Travolta hasn't been this entertaining in ages (there are some horribly forced and out of place scenes with his character Charlie Wax though so be warned - a notable one is when he plays a song he loves in the car with another agent - a horribly cack handed attempt at humour) and the pace is 100mph.
Ending is laughably ridiculous but that's the film down pat. Like I said if you want brainless entertainment, this movie has it in spades. Give it go if you do, avoid like the plague if you don't.
