Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by Justin M — 28 Mar 2010
At a certain point, I seriously have to wonder what it is about war movies that makes them exalted in the eyes of the Academy. This movie was good. It a pretty good award pedigree ,and Burt Lancaster in particular was great.
But I also feel as if I've seen a dozen war movies win Best Picture, and I've got to wonder why. What makes them so special? Why does this movie have that, say, The Shining or Casino Royale or Raiders of the Lost Ark doesn't? Anyway, this is worth watching regardless.
