Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by James W — 09 Jun 2010
While time may have wrought some havoc on this epic film, it still stands up as an enjoyable, moving war drama. Some excellent shots--the immortal love scene on the beach, Montgomery Clift playing Taps on the bugle with tears streaming down his cheeks--highlight this one.
Is it the best Best Picture ever? Nah, not by a long shot. But this is one deeply moving, profound film that most people should see.
