Review of From Hell (2001) by Lauren G — 02 Feb 2010
I listed Johnny Depp as my fave actor, but his cheesy English accent is the ONLY flaw in this pic. Ian Holm played Lewis Carroll in Dreamchild 1985,that adds a thrilling and chilling Potency(yes, what you think)when his eyes go black and he reverse-grips a final whore at the movie's end flashback, his fury and madness and lust-a totally mind blowing experience in the casting of Holm(Existenz).
Sir William Gull is 1 of 4 real life Ripper suspects(I think it was the Pole)and the still-suppressed Jewish/Freemasonry Connection was very real then too. Historically, the Prince himself was a suspect, and this film dealt with that too.
Accurate, atmospheric and my most calming movie for any night when a thunderstorm is howling. But please make an effort to get the 2-disc Collectors Edition, the 2nd disc has really fun menus and a huge variety of featurettes from the comic book to the Absinthe Culture.
And I hope your player has DTS and THX! A must Must MUST own!!!
