Review of From Hell (2001) by Matt S — 14 Sep 2010
Good movie, not really a horror movie, but a good movie nonetheless. Visually, the movie worked on so many levels, it was dark and gritty, what you would expect from london in the late eighteen hundreds.
The Hughes Brothers' direction was perfect for this film, they really captured the dark nature of the story. The acting was serviceable, Johnny Depp did a very good job, Robbie Coltrane played an excellent sergeant, and Ian Holm was an excellent ripper.
The problem that I have with this film is the intertwined love story and weak acting by Heather Graham, don't get me wrong, I like her, but she was not very good in this film. I liked it, but this movie could have been so much better.
