Review of From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (1999) by Al M — 12 Jul 2011
This sequel to Tarantino and Rodriguez's classic horror/action/exploitation film is by no means great--it is a cheaply made, cheesy, poorly acted, direct-to-video sequel. Despite its less-than-stellar pedigree, From Dusk Till Dawn 2 manages to be a thoroughly entertaining piece of action-horror that blends comedy, bad-assery, and gore together like its predecessor.
Plus, Scott Spiegel actually tries to bring a distinct aesthetic to the film--the film features numerous clever shots (or at least shots that attempt to be clever). The film features original point of view shots throughout from point-of-view push-ups to shots from inside the vampires' mouths.
Funny and at times a wee bit clever, From Dusk Till Dawn may be a pointless sequel, but it is certainly worth watching for fans of b-level horror cinema.
