Review of From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (1999) by Trailblazingjack — 05 Oct 2008
A classic example of a straight-to-DVD sequel that's trading off the name only. This really has nothing to do with the original FDTD, it could have been any generic monster movie, but throw in a scene at the Titty Twister and a cameo from Danny Trejo and make the monsters the vampires from the original and there you go - slap From Dusk Till Dawn 2 on the front cover and you're made.
Saying that though, this movie is far from terrible. The characters are pretty good, especially Raymond Cruz's Jesus and cult hero Robert Patrick as lead Buck and hey look, Luther's played by Duane Whitaker (Maynard from Pulp Fiction!) The story's pretty dumb - hell even the characters think so ("Why do vampires need to rob a bank?") - but it's kinda fun and there's a job-lot of entertaining action, especially at the end.
I also quite liked the little visual quirks with the bizarre POV shots such as that of a safe lock - the camera spinning around as the dial is turned - it gives the film a lot of personality. Most of all the movie has that cheap-and-cheerful B-movie charm - vital for a straight-to-DVD special to succeed.
