Review of From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) by Movie M — 01 Feb 2011
I remember when this movie came out, and there was all this hype about Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino working together. I recently (mistakenly) recalled liking this movie so I rented it again even though I have read warnings about how terrible it is.
We're watching it, and it's this great, character driven story about a family that gets abducted by two bank robbers. Harvey Keitel is great, George Clooney is great and Quentin Tarantino...well we're talking about a guy who started writing movies because he wanted to act in them and no one would let him because he sucks.
The movie's moving along and I just can't figure out why people hated it. Then they get to the Mexican club populated by aggressive vampire strippers. At this point it degenerates into a very bad b-monster movie.
I love me some vampire movies, but the last third of this movie is so unbelievably cheesy it's hard to fathom that this was made by highly regarded filmmakers, not some hacks from the Valley.
