Review of From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) by Jerome K — 11 Nov 2011
This is probably one of the strangest movies I've seen in awhile. It kinda felt like it couldn't make up its mind on what it was. The first half was like a violent drama in the vein of Quentin Tarantino (who happens to star in this film), but the second half turns into a horror/vampire film, and it does so so abruptly it just felt out of place.
The performances, though, while sometimes over-the-top, were very well done. Tarantino and his director pal Robert Rodriguez definitely have an eye for talent. Overall, this film felt very much like a hodge-podge of great ideas but turned out not to work out so well when they're put together.
