Review of From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) by Sam C — 14 Oct 2013

A Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez collaboration can only lead to one thing; awesomeness.

From Dusk Till Dawn is about the Gecko brothers, Seth (George Clooney) and Richard (Quentin Tarantino), who are two criminals who rob banks and kill people. To become free they must past the Mexican border, and by doing that they kidnap a former preacher named Jacob (Harvey Keitel) and his two kids. Once they pass the border they all run into an unexpected problem that could end up killing all of them.

Tarantino and Rodriguez collaborate to make an awesome action thriller that flips a certain genre on it's head (I won't spoil which one even though it's widely known). The film doesn't take itself seriously but that's what Tarantino and Rodriguez were going for, and because of that the film entertained me for the whole runtime.

As always Tarantino's writing is nothing but brilliant. The story is just awesome that takes some unexpected twists and turns and is a story that just let's you have fun throughout the entire movie. Tarantino's dialogue is just as quick and sharp as his other films and features some memorable quotes. Also the characters in this film are so cool and some of Tarantino's best.

I found Rodriguez's directing to be very energetic because of how fast the film flew by and because of how fun the film was. Rodriguez knows what type of movie this is and because he knows he just let's go of everything and has fun with making it. Rodriguez also edited the movie and his editing was great because the film was paced perfectly.

The action is this movie is nothing but bloody fun and entertaining. Each action sequence brought something new and was all well choreographed. The action sequences also include some good effects that sometimes I found to be terrifying.

Both George Clooney and Harvey Keitel show that the can become bad-asses and give some excellent performances while Quentin Tarantino shows that he can become a complete bastard. Surprisingly I thought Tarantino's performance was actually pretty good, but then again I'm a major Tarantino fanboy.

The supporting cast includes Juliette Lewis, Tom Savini, Fred Williamson, Danny Trejo, and a gorgeous Salma Hayek. Unlike Tarantino I do not have a foot fetish but I would not mind Salma Hayek putting her foot in my mouth while being half naked.

In the end I found From Dusk Till Dawn to be a awesome collaboration from Tarantino and Rodriguez that entertained me throughout the entire runtime.

If you are a fan of B movies, old grindhouse films, or just Tarantino or Rodriguez in general than my best guess is that you will love this movie. If you are not a fan of any of those than skip it.
