Review of From Beyond (1986) by Scott C — 02 Mar 2013
While I think that Re-Animator is superior in terms of effects and entertainment value, From Beyond is definitely no slouch. I mean come on, sucking brains out through an empty eye socket has got to be one of the grossest things ever put in a horror movie, although I wouldn't go so far as to call it horror.
It has those elements to it, but it seems more like science fiction to me. With a starring cast of Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton and Ken Foree, this was sure to be a winner, and it is. Another big draw for this movie is not only getting to see Barbara Crampton exposed again, but also getting her dressed up in a leather outfit and looking very sexy.
Of course that neither attracts or detracts from the movie, but I was certainly attracted. Anyways, the gore is great and the performances are good, even though the story isn't the greatest. Stuart Gordon really knows how to pull these movies off and it's a shame that he didn't make a lot more of them.
