Review of From Beyond (1986) by Richard C — 30 Nov 2010
Stuart Gordon's novice films focus on incredible special effects, but certain departments lack the equal talent, such as writing and general directing. In From Beyond and Re-Animator, I think Gordon gets by with camp and humor, and you're likely to excuse the flaws if you like the science fiction approach.
From Beyond is relatively short, but with the adequate ingredients to an OK production. Gross, bloody monsters enable fun to be had. The kills are just as gruesome, though on a small scale when taking the horror criterion into account, and Combs plays his screwball character to a T.
