Review of Frogs! (1991) by Caleb M — 13 May 2010

Frogs is another one of those comically campy old-school nature run-amok exploitation films from the 70's. While photographing the polluted waters surrounding a private island, Pickett Smith (a young, studly Sam Elliot) runs into the family of snotty millionaire Ray Milland, who invited Smith up to the island, which as of late, has been infested with thousands of loud obnoxious frogs.

Little do these people realize of the revolt these frogs, not to mention all the other animals of the wilds are planning against man. It's not long before each family member conveniently separates themselves from the rest and is systematically killed off by one these vicious animals.

Incidentally, the Frogs are pretty much gawkers of all the ensuing horror and action, as they go about the entire film not killing anyone! Instead, we have spiders, snakes, gators, lizards, and turtles do all the dirty murdering! And don't give me this shit about the Frogs having the last kill.

They didn't do a thing, lol! Anyways, this movie screams hokey and camp, with lots of unintentional laughs. It is fun to watch such usually serious actors like Elliot (Tombstone), Milland (Panic in Year Zero!) and Adam Roarke (Dirty Mary Crazy Larry) play such silly roles.

While this killer animal film doesn't take itself seriously (like the similar Day of the Animals), it also doesn't manage to be quite as good as Day of the Animals. Still, it's a fun ride while it lasts.
