Review of Fright Night (2011) by Geoffrey T — 11 Apr 2012
Fright Night is that dream of a horror movie that only comes out once in awhile. It seems like horrors movies have a tough time scaring in this day and age, so perhaps the insertion of the comedy-horror genre is simply an admission of defeat.
Whatever the case may be, the remake of Fright Night delivers. It's scary(not in the I won't be able to sleep way, but in the this is highly intense and could end badly way). It's really funny.
The casting is terrific, with David Tennant as the absinthe-downing vampire expert/fraud Peter Vincent, and Colin Farrell as Jerry, the bigger than life and strong as hell vampire next door. Fright Night doesn't take up half its running time toying with whether Jerry is a vampire or not, which allows the story to move fast.
Horror films know how to waste time like no other genre, but this isn't one of those horror films. Fright Night toys with your expectations and keeps the blood and laughs flowing in equal measure.
It's a burst of fun and excitement worth your 10 bucks.
