Review of Fright Night (2011) by Ilsa W — 23 Jun 2012
I haven't seen the original of this movie but I really enjoyed this. It had humour from 'McLovin' and the brilliant David Tennant who brought a definite Russell Brandesque swagger to Vincent, it had a teenage hero in the likable Yelchin and it had the bad guy in the form of super sexy vampire Colin Farrell.
I think Farrell is a very underrated but very good actor and he obviously enjoyed his role in this movie enormously. He had that massively sexy, dangerous edge that us girls want in a vampire. A few of the scenes where his eyes darted over people in a predatory way and the scene where he was desperately trying to get into Charly's kitchen were just played brilliantly.
I think they spoiled it slightly when they made his face all ugly and monster-like. I don't understand why directors feel this need to ugly-up vampires. For a viewer the fact that this gorgeous, sexy, charming man can suddenly turn and bite us at will is scary (& sexy) enough, so stop giving them ugly face, it's not nessescary! Vampire Colin Farrell (with his non-weird face) can bite me!!
