Review of Fright Night (2011) by Darian H — 02 May 2013
I never saw the original, but I rather liked this interpretation on its own merits. The vampire was brilliantly execute din classic Dracula style--at once seductive and monstrous, predatory and persuasive when need be.
Best of all, this genre film is self-aware, with a villain who recognizes the tropes and limitations which limit his capabilities and actively works to overcome them in clever ways. The other characters are a bit hit-and-miss, especially the main one, but the sidekicks (especially the Cris Angel-style stage magician) are amusing.
I'd watch it again!
