Review of Fright Night (2011) by Halfwelshman — 08 Dec 2011
It may not do much in terms of revolutionising the genre (though I did like the comparison between vampires and sharks), but Fright Night is an undeniably enjoyable vampire film. The two main highlights of the film are Colin Farrell and David Tennent.
Farrel makes a great vampire - you can almost see him plotting how best to bring down his prey like a calculating predator, and Tennant's magician and vamp expert, while just a swearier, alcoholic, leather-clad version of The Doctor, is great for pure entertainment value.
There may not be too much going on below the surface of Fright Night, but that hardly matters when the action, gore and self-referential humour is handled so well. It's just plain fun, and sometimes that's all you want from a film.
