Review of Fright Night (2011) by Durell B — 03 Jul 2012
A solid surprise. I was not expecting such a treat. Fright Night like most Hollywood films is filled with your standard cliches but its presentation is what sells it. This remake does not take it self to seriously and revels in its silly premise of a vampire living next door in a suburban neighborhood.
Anton Yelchin is perfect as the teenager who's purpose becomes to take out Colin Farell; a quiet but vicious vampire and save his small town in the process. It plays like a Saturday night matinee special but delivers genuine thrills and very good performances from the supporting cast.
This was such a fun ride that I would not be opposed to Fright Night Part II, provided it does not lose its humble roots and continues a forward progression in story while remaining true to its source material.
