Review of Fright Night (1985) by Seth P — 25 Nov 2009
I love vampire films, nd I love 80's flicks, so to have them put together in such a way that is great is....well... great.
Chris Sarandon is the first one you have to take notice too, he plays the character of Jerry Dandridge so well. He's charming, suave and polite and that could be more dangerous than an outright evil vampire.
Roddy McDowell plays, Peter Vincent, a TV host, who at one point played a vampire killer(his character is modeled after Peter Cushings career)and now finds out they're real. McDowell's performance is good, but just at times for laughs.
William Ragsdale plays Charlie Brewster, a horror fanatic, whose imagination is challenged when he starts to see his neighbor to be a vampire. Ragsdale's career sadley didn't go anywhere, mainly from the roles he chose, but this time around he showed he could act. Great performance.
Amanda Bearse and Stephen Goeffrey's round out the cast in a supporting sense. They are good and get the jobs they are assigned too done.
The way the film is shot is awesome, we have a lot of scenes with fog and noir atmosphere, the score by Brad Fiedel adds more surreal sense. The soundtrack itself is also awesome, each songs fits the scene its placed in. Especially "Give It Up" by Evelyn "Champange" King in the club scene is great.
