Review of Fright Night (1985) by Trevor R — 07 Nov 2014
A wonderful horror-comic tribute to classic genre films of the past. The standouts in the cast are undoubtedly Chris Sarandon and Roddy McDowall, and while the latter's character arc-- of regaining a sense of self-worth and place in the world-- is far more interesting and sympathetically portrayed than Charley's journey into sexual adulthood, the overall experience is just about the finest fusion of gothic horror and 80's teen culture possible (which sounds faintly ridiculous, but it's an absolute blast), and the makeup effects are absolutely tremendous.
