Review of Friends with Kids (2012) by Tommy T — 06 Oct 2012
There's good and there's bad. The good is actually the more dramatic stories of the 2 other couples (Hamm/Wiig & O'Dowd/Rudolph) and what life is really like for them and the not so funny stuff.
Adam Scott is very good, but Jennifer Westfeldt (who wrote, directed, AND starred in this) just doesn't know how to act. Yes she and Jon Hamm are an item in real life, but in this film, I have no trouble believing she hasn't found Mr.
Right. It also stays away from the usual motions of Rom-Coms until near the end when it's obvious Westfeld ran out of gas/creativity, and we get an ending that seems way too easily forced and safe.
Good performances from the ensemble cast and the first 2/3 of this film are the good parts. The last 3rd falls into utterly predictable fare, but it's better than a lot of others in the genre.
