Review of Friends with Kids (2012) by Michael M — 19 Dec 2012
This is a movie carried by Adam Scott and Jennifer Westfeldt with very little scenes involving the supporting cast. And although the script starts out as fun and enlightened, the movie starts a slow, formulaic downward style after the first 30 minutes.
The crux of the story is that God and marriage aren't necessary to have a child. And while that's all well and good, Westfeldt does all she can to show married life as broken and worthless. There was never a time when I bought Westfeldt and Scott as life-long friends, and I certainly never found the chemistry to believe them as a romantic couple.
The last sentence of the movie further illustrates just how out of touch Westfeldt -- who has been in a long-term unmarried relationship with Jon Hamm for nearly 20 years -- is with the dynamics of married peoples.
It's definitely a movie geared toward the fed-up and jaded.
