Review of Friends with Kids (2012) by Alex S — 29 May 2013
At times I liked this movie a lot, other times I wasn't so sure. It was decent but with that cast I couldn't help but hope for some 'Bridesmaids' worthy hilarity. A lot of the disappointment is probably my own fault. I had hyped it up and filled my brain with pre-judgments about what I wanted the movie to be.
Anyways, unfortunately, for me, the story was super predictable and a bit over done but on the up-side, it did have some unexpected emotional moments as well as a few good laughs. I loved Chris O'Dowd and Maya Rudolph's characters, 'Alex' and 'Leslie', in the film and, although I didn't love the 'Ben' and 'Missy' characters (I do love Jon Hamm and Kristin Wiig), I wished we could have seen more of the friends in the film. It was really nice to see Adam Scott in a leading role and it was interesting to see Kristin Wiig in such a different role then I'm used to. I really did enjoy the cast. The one big thing that drove me nuts about Jason (Adam Scott) was the annoying "doll" pet name for Julie. Every time he said it, it just didn't sound right. I know that probably seems ridiculous of me but seriously, watch this movie and you'll understand. That aside, I thought it was good. Way more serious than I initially anticipated and I would've liked to have gotten to know Alex, Leslie, Ben and Missy better, but it was good.
