Review of Friends with Benefits (2011) by John H — 21 Jan 2013
A zippy rom-com that updates the WHEN HARRY MET SALLY theme (the ever-blurry boundaries between friendship, love and connection) for our irony-soaked age. It knows its going to fall into the old formula, but remains fresh throughout due to its wry, witty script which for once acknowledges that most people in the real world have seen the awful rom-coms the movie has so much fun skewering - then reconstructing into a surprisingly earnest (but still wiseass) look at modern relationships.
But the single best asset the movie has is the considerable chemistry between Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, whose fast-paced repartee is a delight to watch.
