Review of Friendly Persuasion (1956) by Jeff B — 27 Jan 2010
I was a little worried about this one before watching it, who wants to watch a 2+ hour film about Quakers in the 19th century? But it was actually quite entertaining, thanks to the cast and William Wyler.
Gary Cooper was great as always, I loved the little storyline with him and the fellow Quaker having their race to church. And the story with the youngest son and the goose was funny as well. It's little bits like that that make this film fun to watch.
Anthony Perkins is good in this, though I probably wouldn't have nominated him for an Oscar. I loved the scene with Gary Cooper and Dorothy McGuire in the barn together after the organ feud. Nice film.
