(1956) Friendly Persuasion.
DRAMA.
Based on a novel centering on a typical American Quaker family with Gary Cooper as the father, right through to the Civil War!
In terms of book adaptions into film, I have to say director William Wyler is one of the best stoytellers of all time because I find how fascinating the way Quaker used to act and talk like before, such as using words like "thee" and "thy" and how it's changed through out the years. And how they would call a church a "meeting place" where they just sit together and discuss the bible instead of have a sermon standing on front of a autorium! The story is a bit long and could've been shortened after a morethan two hour running time length, I have to say it's still handle quite well despite leaving some unanswered questions!
3 out of 4.
