Review of Friend Request (2016) by Isadore H — 02 Oct 2017
Friend Request is one of the more banal horror films I've seen recently, with an interesting premise and a solid way of showing the audience some death scenes and some information of a cult that I'm still not sure is real or not.
The acting, aside from William Mosley, the boyfriend character of all the ones in this film, is very uninspired. I'm not sure what made Mosely stand out, his acting abilities or just the fact that he got decent screen time and had okay lines, but I'm certain it's not the overall writing for his character.
I found all the other characters very one note, with some very cliche angles and lines. Aside from a few cheap jump scares, this film never really grabbed my interest, especially since the ghost or whatever was haunting the characters was able to do essentially whatever she wanted to do.
The ending was somewhat compelling, but it was far too late to save this sunken ship of a horror film.
