Review of Fried Green Tomatoes (1991) by Thomas D — 12 Feb 2012
Excellent film based off of Fannie Flagg's hit novel. Before I saw this film or even heard of the novel, I thought this was about fried green tomatoes but it was much more than that. This was about friendship and the South during the 1920s and the Depression era.
Kathy Bates was excellent as the once weak Evelyn Couch and her transformation from a pushover to a strong woman was very good. Jessica Tandy was also good as Ninny but it was not as great as her role as Daisy.
The chemistry between Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker was amazing and impressive. Definitely one of the ten best chick flicks of the 1990s.
