Review of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984) by Kyler D — 28 Aug 2011
Good: compared to the third this one is better, has a surprising twist in the plot. Large amounts of nudity.
Bad: large amounts of nudity. Not as scary as it is goofy, but scarier than many in the series so far.
Even the title of this movie made me chuckle, "Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter". It seems as though the creators wanted to leave this as the last in the series, attempting to make the last film in the series good, but as in many other series (ex: Jaws) someone decided it would be better to make money and try to produce so many movies that the franchise would drive itself into the ground. The opening scene starts off with two morgue employees who are for some reason getting frisky... where the bodies are kept. Of course they're doing it next to the corpse of Jason, leaving the watcher anxious to know when he's going to resurrect and attack them. This is positively the strangest of all the movies so far. There were scenes that had absolutely no point and were outright laughable. Of course as a series of movies progresses and the writers get more desperate the sexual images increase. Part 4 is filled with sexual images whether it be when a nice trip to the pond turns into a skinny dip when the camera suddenly cuts to a girl stripping, or it be young Tommy watching curiously as two teenagers get frisky from a window in tr neighboring house. Along the way the teenagers are joined by twin girls, of course who are also ready for sex. Besides this though this is where the series surprisingly made a revival in good plotlines. A hiker in the woods has a dark secret stemming from what happened in part 2. This twist really added to the movie, actually giving it a slightly more serious outlook. Like the others this movie has sequences of extremely gory deaths. Compared to the third movie where I already thought the movies would continue to drag down, this one has some light of hope that Friday the 13th can maybe continue to be taken somewhat seriously in terms of storyline. The revival in a serious feeling makes the movie scarier than many of the films so far.
