Review of Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989) by Jeff W — 31 May 2008
A lot of 'Friday' fans seem to complain that this movie marketed itself as a "Jason in New York" movie, except that he's only in the Big Apple for about twenty minutes. Really I'm glad he only spent the last act there, because Jason stomping his way through Times Square isn't scary, and it really seemed goofy more than anything.
Despite this movie's total disregard for logic (since when did Crystal Lake connect to the ocean?) and reality (since when do electric guitars work without amps?) I still had fun with it. Kane Hodder is in tip top shape as Jason, despite the moronic New York crap.
But this film is still a bad movie, more so than most of the other 'Friday' films, but at least it's enjoyable, unlike Part 5.
