Review of Friday the 13th Part III (1982) by Mr J — 19 Aug 2010
I have no intro to this, so here is my review.
Part 3 of Friday the 13th is more or less the same as the previous movie. A group of teenagers go to a cabin that is located on Christal Lake. Despite two movies worth of killings, people are still entering Jason's territory, but who needs logic when there is money to be made? Not only does this sequel feature stereotypical teenagers, but there are hippies and a loser geek, too. Oh, and a gang of bikers, which makes this movie 5% better.
At this point in the series, you should only really be watching these movies to see Jason kill a bunch of people in creative ways. There is really no other value to these movies. They're not suspenseful or particularly scary. Unless, of course, you find blood and people getting killed scary. With that said, Part 3 has some of the most creative kills in the entire series. Do you remember the arrow going through Kevin Bacon's throat in the original movie? Imagine that exact scene except with a machete. The arrow scene was creepier, but this is more awesome. Also, there is a guy that is walking around the house on his hands because he can. He looks up and Jason is standing above him. Then, stuff happens.
Obviously, this movie is is 3D. Part 3 in 3D. Get it? It's a joke. I got the dvd that comes with the awesome hockey mask-style 3D glasses, red and blue style. I hate wearing paper over my eyes that make everything look red and blue, so I watched this movie in 2D. Many of the kills are set up to be in 3D, so it might take a little bit out of the enjoyment of them. Still, they are fine in 2D.
This movie is where Jason gets his hockey mask, thus completing his modern image. I thought I would throw that in just 'cause.
Spoiler about the ending scene--.
The ending is so much more improved since Part 2's direct copy of the far superior original. In this one, a girl is in a canoe in Chrystal Lake. It sounds exactly like the original. It is in the end, but it's sort of different. As I was saying, she wakes up on a boat in Christal Lake. At first, there are false scares such as a log hitting the canoe and a bird flying by. Then, Jason's bloody face appears in a window in the house. He then comes out of the house, approaches the lake, and disappears. Then, Mrs. Vorhees' corpse jumps out of the lake. The first half was good, but it would have been better without Mrs. Vorhees.
-------------------------------.
As far as the FT13th sequels go, this one is alright. There are better and worse. If you are a fan of the series, this should be one of your higher priorities.
