Review of Friday the 13th Part III (1982) by Forrest P — 09 Sep 2010
You know, I give Avatar a lot of shit, but it did do one thing right. Avatar showed the world how to do 3D. A movie like Friday the 13th Part 3 shows how to NOT do 3D. And that's what makes Friday the 13th Part 3 the worst Friday movie I've seen to date. Well, one of the reasons anyway.
The characters are, of course, hollow tubes. Their nothing. I didn't care about them and couldn't care less when they started dying. But, that's very typical of any Friday the 13th movie.
What made this movie truly horrifying was the 3D. It was not just bad. It was nearly unwatchable. Every time one of the characters pointed a tent pole at the camera or popped popcorn right into the audience's face, I had to wince in disbelief. Is this really the gimmick that they were trying to go for?
So, were there any redeeming qualities to Friday the 13th Part 3? Well, not really, but the film wasn't the worst slasher film I've ever seen (that title still goes to Freddy's Dead). Some of the characters were kind of charming, and that's what made it ultimately tolerable.
But not enough to make it a worthwhile experience. Yet another failure for the Friday the 13th series. In fact, it's the worst I've seen thus far.
But, I'm sure I won't be able to get out without talking about our beloved killer, Jason Voorhees. He's not a character. I've said this many times before: a voiceless, hollow, characterless killer *is* *not* *scary*. I wish someone had told these filmmakers that before hand.
2/10.
