Review of Friday the 13th Part III (1982) by Lanky Man P — 16 Apr 2011

Im sorry but I LOVE THIS MOVIE! this is not the most well made of the fridays, but fuck me if it isnt the most ridiculously entertaining, friday the 13th part 3 (in 3d as it was origionally known) what a fun time this film is, origionally shot in 3d, back in the short early 80's red and green spec 3d craze along with films like jaws 3 in 3d and amittyville 3d, leaving the non 3d home viewing film with loads of absolutely hilarious moments were the actors intentionaly shove things right into the camera, and anything that can be chucked at you is, everything from knives, axes, popping popcorn, a yo yo that is lowered right at us (oh wow watch out!!) a really fake snake, and in one brillant moment an eye ball popping cartoonishly right out of someones head and into the lens as jason squeeses it like a zit, juggling balls, the lot (you half expect the kitchen sink to be thrown right into your peripherals) it's all so fantasticly pointless! even more amusingly you can see blatantly the wires on everything that flies at you, there seems to be no effort to hide them, it's just great.

This were we finally get the fully formed jason you know and love, and you actualy see him get his iconic hockey mask, and jason is terrifying in this, despite how cartoony and comical it all is, jason is just a brutal force of nature, and very good at giving us some wonderfully inventive kills, including macheting a guy doing a hand stand, right down the middle of his crotch! ("ouch") the characters in this one are especialy hatefull and one dimentional, not one of them is a pleasant or in any way likable person, even the "horror film make up" buff nerd who cant get the girl is a completely unsympathetic prick and an utter social retard, I literally couldnt wait for him to die, at the very least jason gets his famous hockey mask from this moronic nerd, so that counts for something.

Another bit of value comes in the form of "the worst biker gang ever" a bunch of overage lame-o's who attempt (patheticly) to terrorise our protangonists, only to predictably be very quickly killed by jason in a variety of ways (one of them sort of dies but comes back in time to help the heroine at the end, and even then he's useless and just dies straight away) and with names like loco, fox and ali, you just know these guys are seriously unthreatening loosers, making them all the more fun to laugth at, they even get their bikes run over by the nerdwanker.

This is terrible brilliance, full of crass and vulgar human beings, bad taste and uniententional hilarity, sometimes it feels like the filmmakers are in on the joke, but I like to think they wernt, it makes it more fun.

And the disco, smoke machine opening is just, fucking great, watching this film in a haze of beer and junk food with a mate who has a great sense of humour is a very recommended experience. No tit's though, but I can forgive that when a film is this amazingly fun, dumb and exquisitly badly made.
