Review of Friday the 13th Part III (1982) by Kyler D — 28 Aug 2011
Good: gory, laughably goofy.
Bad: not scary, characters are ridiculous.
Friday the 13th part 3 is another gory sequel in the franchise. Jason is back for vengeance, targeting another sex-crazed group of teenagers. As the series moves on I am beginning to see that these movies aren't as scary as they are goofy. This quality is especially shown in this film. Everything about the movie is strange and weird. The characters are just horribly strange. There's an overweight teenager that gets his kicks from pranking his fellow roommates. The biker gang I found was a good idea for the movie to add the biker gang, although the character portrayl like in the others was goofy. At some points the writers seemed to try to add in more story by adding in a girl's past encounter with Jason, which I found had a positive and negative effect. It did add more story, but at the same time how did she get away? Jason hasn't let any of the teenagers get away that he didn't want to, so how did this girl escape by merely kicking him in the face? The deaths are even more over the top in part 3, making for a fun time. Jason also receives his classic horror hockey mask. The "3D" effect the movie had just looked hilarious when the 3D ability has been taken out. The title would push itself out in the beginning, making me think of the beginning of 3D ethnology and watchers saying "oooo 3D". All in all if your looking to be scared, this isn't your movie. But I your looking for a cheesy, gory, time to spend with your friends, you found the right movie.
