Review of Friday the 13th Part III (1982) by Dougal S — 13 Sep 2011
Made in 3D before 3D was trendy. Well... it was made during it's previous mini-boom in the early 80s but you know what I mean.
This turned out to be considerably better than I remember. Yes there's nothing groundbreaking here - this is a F13 film, what do you expect? But this was made before everything started to become a cliche and the franchise started just recycling the same old stuff. So what may appear trite here was actually the first time it had been done in this way. What people "know" Jason as all slips into place in this film - the ice hockey mask, the machete, the lumbering unstoppable giant - this is where it all comes together.
If you go into this just wanting to be entertained by one of the better entries into this franchise then you can do a lot worse (numbers 5 and 8 for example). The 3d looks a bit odd these days - rather than the real 3D scenes of the modern day this is confined to various things being poked or thrown out of the screen (including an eyeball at one stage) and without the 3d glasses it makes for some odd looking camera angles. That aside though it holds up pretty well and certainly kept me entertained.
