Review of Friday the 13th Part III (1982) by Eytan D — 06 Sep 2013
Directed by Steve Miner, director of part 2, "Friday the 13th Part 3" does have its flaws. The atmosphere of the first 2 is slightly lost, and the 3D effects the film was released with are now obvious and incredibly cheesy.
However, none of the F13 films are perfect. They're campy, entertaining horror flicks that just happen to be host to Jason Voorhees, one of the most iconic villains in slasher history. Part 3 has some great things in it.
This is the movie that finally introduces the seminal hockey mask. The movie is also pretty gory, even suspenseful at times. Harry Manfredini offers a stellar score, as always, and even opens the movie with a highly campy 80's disco theme.
All of the characters are likeable, especially Dana Kimmell as Chris and Larry Zerner as Shelly, who manages to pull out some wonderfully awkward but funny jokes. And did I mention the ending pays decent homage to the first film? Is it scary? Nope.
Is it fun? Of course it is. It's a "Friday the 13th" movie.
