Review of Friday the 13th Part III (1982) by Russell G — 29 Oct 2015
I have no love for the Jason series, but this is a slight rebound from the deplorable second movie. It is nice to see the movie cut down on the stupidity of the characters, even if the acting is well below par.
I appreciate deemphasizing the gore in favor of tension. This movie actually has some legitimate excitement. It has longer chase scenes and more thoughtfully set up kill situations. This all sounds like praise, but it is in comparison to two terrible movies.
There are still more than twenty bone-headed false alarms. That may be fewer than the previous movies in the series, but it still cheapens any tension the plot, music or camerawork attempts to build. I can respect its low-budget campy feel, but it is not funny enough to be satirical.
It may be the strongest of the series, but that still does not mean that it is good.
