Review of Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) by Tim B — 21 Apr 2009
Starts off with a great opening sequence to tie it in with Part 1, then basically mimics it while dumbing it down. There's one really good kill and the end sequence kicked ass. This marks Jason's first appearance in the series and I can respect this entry for introducing my favorite goalie.
There's also a ton of ladies taking their clothes off (I think every woman does in this one) and when it comes to slashers, that does no wrong for me. It looks like somebody should've tweaked on the script, though.
It took rip after rip on the first one with scene transitions and when it didn't, it acted like it didn't know what to do from there. The gore was also extremely toned down here and you can tell they cut away from a lot of it.
I don't know how many times I can say this: IT IS A SLASHER FILM. Amy Steel's character of Ginny was the only person I gave a shite about. She is very different from your typical heroine in slashers and I appreciated that big time.
The music still works here, when it does pop up it gives some suspense to the scenes. This one is average for me as far as sequels go. If you're watching the series for the first time, you might as well have a look.
