Review of Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) by Matthew L — 25 Jun 2009
Though Part 2 is still nowhere near Halloween in terms of shear terror and originality, it is a dramatic improvement from the pitiful first film. This time, Jason takes on those ever so attractive, ever so dumb camp counselors who get too close to Camp "Blood" (Crystal Lake).
The acting is bad, but this film actually delivers on the scares with some truly horrifying moments. Less gore, but the much-improved script raises the tension with a killer who has no time for idle chit-chat.
Jason is a pure killing machine, driven by animal intensity and vengeance, whereas his mother was driven by insanity. Jason is what makes this film work, and why the series has survived as long as it has.
