Review of Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) by James O — 23 Jul 2011
Friday the 13th Part 2 trumps over the first one incredibly. The body count is higher, the way the teens die are more inventive and brutal, and I'm still not sure if Jason's potato sack mask is better than the hockey mask he dons in Part 3.
A lot of the death scenes are taken from Mario Bava's proto-slasher A Bay of Blood (AKA Twitch of the Death Nerve), like the machete to the face, the machete to the neck, and (most obvious) the speared-during-sex.
Amy Steel makes a fantastic final girl and I wish she was in more slashers (she was also the final girl in the much-hated 1986 slasher April Fool's Day). There are a few plot holes (how does Jason find Alice???), but they don't detract from the final product.
