Review of Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) by Troy F — 01 Feb 2014
It leads off from the first, but If you didn't find the the first Friday the 13th enticing in its plot, you may want to stop there and never continue with the series. Friday the 13th is like many horror series where the sequel are just repetitious examples of what you seen in the first, just with added silly twists.
However, if you're willing to turn your brain off, accept their predictability, and just enjoy them for some brutal and hilarious kills, you'll find some mild enjoyment out of the series. That goes for the 2nd part as it follows a new gang of counselors.
To be fair, it leads off fairly well. But is it a smart film in any way? Hell no. Satisfying? Yes. You watch these stupid sequels of this series mainly just to see how each guy is killed, and that's the best part.
The kills are just as satisfying as the first, maybe more so in this film. As is known, the film always hits that point where its seemingly one victim left standing, and in this film, she's pretty clumsy and stupid.
I found myself shouting at her. I get it, she's terrified, but she doesn't remotely try to run away, she makes herself readily easy to kill. Anyhow, it throws in some bogus material with Jason's mom making a return in some strange, unexplained way (just watch what the hell the girl does.
.. wha!?) and this is when we see Jason as Mr. Lumberjack with a bag on his head. I enjoyed its stupidity and its slaughter, just like I will with the next sequels, all at varying degrees of course.
