Review of Friday the 13th (2009) by Aaron K — 06 May 2012
Unlucky for almost everyone. It's a sad day when a Friday the 13th remake is shown up by a My Bloody Valentine remake - couldn't they at least have sprung for 3-D? Then again, I'm not really convinced with 3D yet.
This "reimagining", by the director Marcus Nispel, of the 1980 slasher movie is one hell of a bore. I know I keep saying this but why do Hollywood feel the need to remake classic horrors, this is just as bad as the Nightmare on Elm Street remake.
Poor acting, poor production values and is more laughable than scary. The death scenes were so-so and it sometimes felt like the reboot was going the right way but nope, it took a wrong turn and smashed into a wall.
Stop remaking films Hollywood, haven't we learnt this yet?? Don't watch this, stick to the original for the love of God. I just hope they don't feel the need to do nine more sequels remakes.
The original handful of Friday films had a certain low-rent elegance about them, and this slickly done, dimly lighted, whiplash-edited update loses that too.
