Review of Friday the 13th (2009) by Michael K — 26 Feb 2013
Was this supposed to be a Jason reboot or another Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot with Jason as the new Leatherface? Granting the two films were directed by the same director, Friday the 13th had a lackluster plot, even though it is a Friday film it still needs to have some sense of progression, that tried to combine Friday Part Two and TCM's hillbilly mentality. The kills were great homages to the previous films and the constant nudity made the film quite pleasurable. Though the kills were predictable, the use of loud noise instead of the legendary Jason sound motif caused constant jumps and tense situations.
Spoiler/Not Spoiler: There is a huge mary jane field in the middle of Camp Crystal Lake...where the hell did that come from? Has society gone through so much change in the teenage culture that the search for weed is more socially and morally devastating than teenage sex? In the end, Friday the 13th, was a solid Jason film that provided the scares, the kills, and the overly necessary nudity. Leave the mind at home and go enjoy yourself.
