Review of Friday the 13th (2009) by Tyson P — 23 May 2013
I enjoyed the 1980s original. It had something interesting, while also being a good horror film. This film though fails on every level, while it also doesn't really find a good footing. While appearing as a reboot, it also appears mainly as a poor rehash, unable to find an interesting story, with the film just being one long murder.
In a way, every character gets killed, with the film never finding a story. This film features Jason Voorhees as the main killer, who took over as the killer in the sequel to the original. In the original, his mother was the killer.
This film has a good opening, with Jason witnessing his mother's death, but than goes downhill from there. Derek Mears is perfectly cast as Jason, taking over the role from several other actors who have depicted the character on screen before, most notably Kane Hodder.
In the end the film is a failed attempt to reboot the series. Stick with the original, that will be the best thing to do.
