Review of Friday the 13th (2009) by Brandon W — 01 Nov 2015
So after watching the original Friday the 13th, I honestly was glad that the filmmakers did a reboot of Friday the 13th, even though fans of the series weren't happy that they were even doing it, especially when it's from the production of Platinum Dunes which I understand why as Michael Bay being involved with a horror film and a reboot is not a good idea, knowing what he does with source material these days.
I was happy to see that the writers of Freddy Vs. Jason also wrote this after it which I actually like Freddy Vs. Jason and is the first Friday the 13th film that I saw. So when I watched it after watching the original one, I honestly think that the reboot of Friday the 13th is a good movie that the original should've been a bit like this.
The plot is really nothing new, and the characters are forgettable like the original film, except for Jared Padalecki's character who has a bit of a backstory. The deaths are decent, but nothing memorable.
I did like the humor of it which most of the funny jokes came from Aaron Yoo's character. The effects are pretty good, and the soundtrack by Steve Jablonsky is very creepy which I'm glad that the film even use the original theme song.
There are things that don't make sense why, and it doesn't do anything new to Jason's backstory other then tell the same story. So while it's not the best reboot film I've seen which I wasn't really expecting much from it, I still enjoyed it enough for me to think that it's a good movie.
