Review of Friday the 13th (2009) by Joseph C — 13 Jan 2012
Such a let down. They had the opportunity to take everything Jason was and make it fresh. The film was way too cliche and I almost walked out when they started talking about the legend of Jason around the campfire.
The script was poorly written and it felt to jolty between some scenes like something was missing. I was hoping they would do what they did with Texas Chainsaw and take the original idea, the essence of Jason and the films and give it a fresh start.
This was the same old thing we've seen over and over. Don't get me wrong, some of the deaths were creative, but if thats the highlight of the film, then something is missing. Now the Texas Chainsaw remake had a lot of horror elements like the original, but the remake was freaking creepy.
This film wasn't even scary on any level. Which in retrospect, I think they weren't going for. Its not a horror film, its just a plain jane slasher film, nothing fresh. As for the cast, Jared Padalecki was the best and has a great career going for himself.
If they do a sequel, I hope that they do a better script. Sad thing is, the Friday the 13th series is my favorite slasher/horror series, and Freddy Vs. Jason is an improvement over this let down.
