Review of Friday Night Lights (2004) by Chris H — 05 Sep 2009
Works best as an anti-Remember the Titans, a much glossier movie full of bullshit that ends up preaching about how winning is everything. This movie is much more realistic and even the preachy elements are very true to life, as any football player will tell you.
It's very different in tone from the book, except where the racial tension is concerned, the film is very uncomfortable to watch at times especially during the final game where it really feels like the black players are the bad guys at first and this is ultimately the most transcendent part of the movie.
I can't explain why I like this movie so much but I really do love it.
