Review of Friday Night Lights (2004) by Amanda B — 14 Jun 2010
A sports movie that doesn't uplift you in a regular manner. No underdog story with a team made of regulars that goes on to beat the "favorites" with cheesy uplifting music playing in the back ground.
This movie is about the harsh realities of sports and life to come after college. A sports film that focuses more on the character drama than the actual "drama" on the field. It's about fanaticism, the great weight of importance certain people place on sports.
Sports fans often regard their teams as extensions of themselves and they see their sporting heroes as well, "heroes", with no weaknesses and problems. But we see these sportsmen in their human element.
How being famous doesn't help solve their personal problems but instead weigh them down even more. A unique film with a brilliant ensemble cast and an even more superb soundtrack that only heightens the scene's impact.
