Review of Friday Night Lights (2004) by Garrett R — 25 Sep 2010
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS is an excellently told and presented adaptation of H.G. Bissinger's non-fictional story of Odessa's Permian Panthers circa 1988. The editing of the football action, the impact of the intense home scenes, and the committed performances of Billy Bob Thornton as Coach Gary Gaines, Lucas Black as Mike Winchell, Jay Hernandez as Brian Chavez, Garrett Hedlund as Don Billingsley, and Tim McGraw as Don's unpredictable alcoholic father.
Director Peter Berg has made a TV show out of Bissinger's source material, yet the original story of the Permian Panthers' tumultuous 1988 season cannot be topped in the medium of TV. Be ready for more Critiques and Opinions on Every I Can Get My Hands On!
